Essential Oils for Anxious Feelings and Sleep Issues

Aromatherapy Philippines - This one is taken from one of our case studies for our certification in Aromatherapy. Through our consultation services, we vetted out the client's case. It is mandatory to get any medical history, personal information for profiling, medications and treatments taken, and a lot more during the assessment. A client interview is necessary whether by email, skype or messenger.

Client is having trouble sleeping and has anxious feelings due to pressure at work and could be because of the pandemic situation.

Medical history showed that client has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in the previous year.  However, client is currently not taking any medications or treatments but is having some random sessions with a psychologist.



Aromatherapist' Assessment:

We created two special blends for the client to be used separately in the morning and evening. 

1. To help reduce anxious feelings during the day, we have made a topical oil blend from these essential oils: Orange, Lemon, Bergamot, Rosemary. 

Carrier oil: argan oil

Dilution rate: 3%

Application: Topical, Roller-bottle


Client has to massage it on the temples, nape, back of the ears, and wrist during the day or when needed.

2. To help support for a restful sleep, we created an inhaler during bed time. The essential oils used are Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Lavender, Chamomile and Bergamot.


To induce sleep, client has to inhale the provided inhaler.

As a way to support the client to cope up with stress, anxious feelings, discomforts and irregular sleep pattern at night, we decided to create both an aromatic and therapeutic blend.

Client is more drawn to any floral scent and has no issues with citrusy aroma.



The client is more drawn to citrus aroma during the day as the initial reaction and didn't appreciate much the inhaler at night for the first 3 days. However, during a follow up interview after a week on using the blends, client is now liking the inhaler much with floral tones than the citrus blend.

After two weeks, client affirmed feeling better emotionally and having a relaxing sleep with no interruptions during the night.

To monitor the progress report, a follow up is made every week within a month.
